At the School of Business and Economics, we are looking for a creative Communications Officer who enjoys storytelling, thinks digitally, and knows how to connect with different audiences.

Communications officer – School of Business and Economics (SBE)

  • Our goal: Bring the stories of SBE to life through inspiring communications and impactful campaigns that strengthen our visibility, reputation and connection with prospective students, researchers and external partners.
  • Your colleagues: An international team of communications, marketing, recruitment, events and alumni relations professionals who work together to tell SBE's story and connect people with our School.

At the School of Business and Economics, communication is about more than sharing information. It is about bringing our research to life, inspiring future students and strengthening the visibility of our school. To support our Communications team during a maternity leave, we are looking for a creative Communications Officer who enjoys storytelling and digital marketing. Working closely with fellow Communications Officers, you will contribute to a wide range of communications and marketing activities, with a particular focus on research communications and student recruitment


What you do

As a communications officer, you will:

  • Create engaging content across a variety of channels and formats, including news articles, website copy, social media posts, videos, photography and other multimedia content that showcases SBE's education, research and community
  • Write and edit a variety of communication materials, including website content, news articles and promotional copy.
  • Manage and update content on the SBE website and other digital platforms.
  • Design and optimise automated customer journeys and targeted email marketing campaigns driven by CRM and email marketing software.
  • Create engaging visual content for digital campaigns, including banners, social media assets and landing pages.
  • Design promotional materials for events, including digital signage, presentations, printed materials and event branding.

What you bring

It’s not about ticking boxes – it’s about who you are and what you bring. Do you recognise yourself in the following?

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging content for a variety of audiences.
  • Strong storytelling skills, with an eye for identifying and communicating compelling stories across education, research and student life.
  • Experience creating content, including social media content, photography and video (or in coordination with suppliers).
  • Graphic design skills, with experience creating digital and print communication materials using design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite or Canva).
  • Experience managing website content using a Content Management System (CMS), with an understanding of usability and user experience.
  • Digital marketing expertise, including email marketing, CRM-data management and building automated customer journeys (flows).

What we offer

At Maastricht University, you’ll work in an international, open, and engaged environment. We offer:

  • An 8-month contract (1,0 fte) as a maternity cover.
  • A gross monthly salary between €3708,00and €5057,00 (based on full-time employment of 38 hours per week). 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus.
  • 29 vacation days (based on full-time), four additional days off (Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day), and the possibility to accrue up to 12 extra days through compensation hours.
