What you do
The fencing coach must be able to provide quality coaching to student fencers at various levels. This includes warm-ups, footwork, technique and coaching during competitions. Excellent fencing knowledge is required in at least two of the three weapons.
As fencing coach you will coach the student fencing club MAS Incontro.
The tasks of the fencing coach include:
• Provide quality coaching to student fencers at different levels
• Lead warm-up sessions to prepare athletes for training and competition
• Teach and develop footwork techniques
• Instruct students in fencing techniques and tactics
• Offer coaching support during competitions
• Demonstrate excellent knowledge in at least two of the three weapons
• Coach the student fencing club MAS Incontro

The role requires strong soft skills, including well-developed social skills to effectively collaborate with students, patience to support and guide beginners through their initial learning stages, and enthusiasm that fosters a positive and motivating training environment. Alongside these interpersonal abilities, the following hard skills are also essential:
• KNAS trainer licence (preferably level 4, level 3 at least)
• Experience as fencing instructor or similar
• Available 19:00-21:30 on Thursdays
• Proficiency in English
What we offer
As a fencing instructor at Student Services Centre you will be employed by the most international university of the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
• Good employment conditions. The position is in graded in scale 7 or 8 according to the UFO profile sports instructor function level 4 or 3, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from € 3.057 to € 4.484 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus are applicable.
• An employment contract for a period of 9 months with a scope of 0.05 FTE. If proven suitable, the employment contract will be extended.
• As Maastricht University, we offer various other excellent secondary employment conditions. These include a good pension scheme with the ABP and the opportunity for UM employees to participate in company fitness and make use of the extensive sports facilities that we also offer to our students.

Student Services Centre
The Student Service Centre (SSC) serves as the central contact point for all student services and helps students with a wide range of matters related to studying and student life.
The SSC provides students with information about admissions, enrolment, tuition fees, and diploma recognition. Additionally, students can seek legal advice on study-related issues, career guidance, language courses, or assistance from a psychologist through the SSC.
Moreover, the SSC offers various extracurricular activities such as a diverse range of sports options at the University Sports Centre, opportunities for volunteering, and lectures and workshops through Studium Generale.
This way, the SSC provides students with the chance to develop and enrich themselves in areas beyond their studies, enabling them to enter the job market with a solid foundation consisting of broad-based knowledge, skills and competencies.

UM SPORTS
UM SPORTS is a department of the Student Services Centre (SSC) of our Maastricht University and organises the sports programme for primarily Maastricht University’s students, staff and alumni. With its wide selection of sports (over 60 activities), 34 Student Sports Associations (SSA), fun events and student-friendly prices, UM SPORTS offers a healthy and fun sports experience with something for everyone. UM’s international character is also strongly present at UM SPORTS, in both its members and employees. Most activities are offered in English, so everyone can join in. UM SPORTS, with all its trainers and instructors, service desk staff and management team, has more than 120 employees. Many of our staff members are, or once were, students at Maastricht University. They all share a passion for sports and exercise.
