DEXLab Research and Education Officer in Maastricht

Welcome to Maastricht University! Digital technologies are transforming how people learn, work, and experience the world. At the School of Business and Economics (SBE), you help shape that transformation in practice. As DEXLab Research and Education Officer, you make innovative digital research and education possible—every single day.

DEXLab Research and Education Officer 0.8-1.0 FTE

  • Our goal:   To develop DEXLab into Maastricht University’s leading hub for cutting-edge digital experience research and education, using emerging technologies such as VR/AR, AI, robotics, and biometrics.
  • Your colleagues: You will work with an interdisciplinary team of researchers, educators, and student assistants who explore how immersive technologies and AI shape human experience.

DEXLabis the Digital Experience Laboratory of SBE. It is a collaborative space where research, education, and executive training meet cutting-edge technology. The lab supports projects and workshops involving mixed reality, service robots, generative AI, biometrics, and simulation-based learning. It serves the SBE community and works closely with partners across Maastricht University and beyond.

As DEXLab Research and Education Officer, you ensure that the lab operates smoothly and continues to grow as an accessible and innovative research and education environment. You combine operational coordination with educational support and stakeholder engagement.

You manage daily lab operations, coordinate activities across research and teaching, and support workshops for diverse groups—from master’s students to business professionals. You work independently while collaborating closely with SBE departments and external partners, including UM faculties, EDLAB, Maastricht UMC+, and Zuyd University of Applied Sciences.

Depending on your interests and expertise, the remaining 0.2–0.4 FTE may be allocated to additional education or research activities.

What you will do

You play a central role in making innovation tangible within DEXLab. Your responsibilities include:

  • Managing lab equipment, bookings, and operational processes.
  • Facilitating workshops and training sessions involving VR/AR, AI, robotics, and biometric tools.
  • Coordinating activities with research teams and supervising student assistants and interns.
  • Supporting ongoing research projects and assisting researchers in the use of digital technologies.
  • Representing DEXLab at university events such as Open Days and education initiatives.
  • Hosting visiting researchers and external partners.
  • Maintaining DEXLab’s digital presence and communication channels.
  • Identifying improvements in processes and ensuring the lab operates efficiently and safely.

What you bring

It’s not about ticking boxes—it’s about who you are and what you bring. Do you recognise yourself in this?

  • Curious about emerging technologies – You are motivated to work hands-on with VR/AR, AI, robotics, and other digital tools. Prior expertise is not required; willingness to learn is essential.
  • Confident facilitator and communicator – You feel comfortable presenting to diverse audiences, from students to professionals, and build constructive relationships across departments. Strong English skills are required; Dutch is an advantage.
  • Organised and team-oriented – You coordinate activities, manage bookings, and guide student assistants while fostering collaboration and independence.
  • Research-supportive and academically aware – You understand academic environments and enjoy supporting researchers in their projects. You are interested in contributing to grant writing or small-scale research activities.
  • Proactive problem-solver – You take initiative, troubleshoot technical issues, improve workflows, and work independently when needed.

What we offer At Maastricht University, you’ll work in an international, open, and engaged environment. We offer:

  • A 12-month contract with a gross monthly salary between €3.057 and €3.985 (based on full-time employment of 38 hours per week).
  • 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus.
  • 29 vacation days (based on full-time), four additional days off (Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day), and the possibility to accrue up to 12 extra days through compensation hours.
  • Flexible working hours, a home office allowance, and the option to work from home.
  • Freedom and space to shape your work independently and develop your ideas.
  • A close-knit community of colleagues to collaborate and grow with.
  • A solid pension plan via ABP, company fitness schemes, and access to various university sports facilities.
  • An inspiring work environment in the heart of Europe.
