Vacancy: Jazz Theory Teacher – Aural Skills & Arranging

The Jazz Department is expanding its team of theory teachers and is looking for a new colleague to join us from September 1, 2025.

Your Role

• Teach group lessons in Aural Skills (including ear training, transcription, and solfège)
• Teach group lessons in Arranging (with a focus on traditional 4-part horn section writing
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the theory curriculum

• Active collaboration with the Jazz theory team
• Willingness to align on consistent terminology (e.g., movable-do system)
• Openness to diverse assessment methods

Who We’re Looking For

• An inspiring educator with expertise in ear training, jazz arranging, and broader jazz theory
• A strong artistic profile and broad knowledge of jazz and popular music styles
• A skilled cross-cultural communicator with a proactive, creative, and solution-oriented mindset
• Fluent in English (listening, speaking, reading, and writing)

Qualifications

• Experienced jazz musician/performer
• Master’s degree in Jazz (instrumental, composition/arranging, or theory)
• Preferably experienced in higher music education
• Open to innovation, research, and entrepreneurship
• Team-oriented and collaborative

Terms of Employment

• Appointment of approximately 3 to 5 hours per week (depending on student numbers) for one year, with the perspective of a growing involvement in the future and with the prospect of a permanent position
• Salary up to scale 11 ( min € 4.173,75 max € 6.359,47 full-time) based on CAO-HBO, including 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, vacation days, professional development hours, and a comprehensive vitality program
• Please note: freelance (ZZP) contracts are not possible
