SABIC Intellectual Property Group (IPG) is the global organization that will provide IP services to SABIC SBU's and Technology&Innovation. SABIC IPG forms part of SABIC Legal Affairs.

SABIC IPG will provide general IP services, that is not only all activities related to Patents, but also to e.g. Trademarks, Copyrights, Trade Secrets, and Confidential Information.

The group is organized in four regional centers (Asia, Americas, Middle East and Europe). The 7 members of the European center are based in Geleen and Bergen op Zoom (The Netherlands).

The Challenge

Job Purpose
Primary responsibility for supporting Chief IP Counsel and T&I leaders in developing and implementing IP strategy for the business, providing legal and IP counseling and contract support to responsible businesses, managing the SBU patent portfolios to enhance the value of SABIC technology.

Key Accountabilities

• Close collaboration with Technology & Product Managers and Chief IP Counsel in developing and implementing Intellectual Property strategy for achieving SABIC’s business objectives
• Manage the Intellectual Property team in Europe to include supervision, performance reviews and career planning
• Manage and participate in SABIC effort relative to patent preparation, prosecution & maintenance of patent portfolios – deal with Patent & Trademark offices globally
• Negotiate and execute IP-related contracts with customers and suppliers (NDA, JDA, DAA, licenses)
• Support patent litigation activities
• Implement freedom to practice processes across SBUs to minimize patent infringement risk
• Assist in IP due diligence for M&A activities
• Manage IP workload and budget for European team
• Support legal aspects of licensing activities

Your Profile

Qualifications 

• Qualified European Patent Attorney
• Relevant technical background in chemistry / material science

Experience 

• 10+ years of IP experience with international law firm and/or global company
• Demonstrated global patent experience
• Prior work in petrochemicals or chemicals industry
• Experienced in project or team management
• Prefer IP contract & licensing experience
