Investment initiatives in other sectors

Investeringsinitiatieven in andere sectoren

The initiatives which were taken to put Limburg on the map as a successful region, are not limited to the projects surrounding Life Sciences, New Energies, Technological Top Region and Agro-Food. Different tangible projects, which strengthen the economy in Limburg, are being carried out in other branches too, such as in the logistics and SME branch.

Grant for innovations in SMEs in Limburg

Innovatie in Limburgse MKB

Companies in Limburg who have innovation plans but not the capacity to carry them out have made considerable use of the possibility to hire 'innovation officers'.  This project is an initiative set up by the LIOF and includes the hiring of a functionary who draws a specific innovation project to a company.

The innovation officers are supported individually and collectively by Syntens, the innovation network in Limburg. The project 'Innovation Officer' was rounded off at the end of 2007. Follow-up projects in Zeeland, Brabant and Limburg are being discussed within the South Netherlands context.

UniMaas's expertise accessible to SMEs

Entrepreneurs from small and medium-sized companies in the Euregion can easily access Maastricht University's scientific knowledge via the MKB portal. From market research to lectures and from a business plan to training in entrepreneurship; the MKB Portal is a customer-friendly counter, where entrepreneurs can go with all their questions which lie outside the realm of their ‘core-business’. To conduct research so-called 'innovatievouchers' (innovation vouchers) can be used as payment.

Besides this the MKB Portal also offers entrepreneurs the opportunity to present themselves to potential employees (students) on the 'Wall of Opportunities'; a wall with LCD screens located in the University's modern faculty of Economics and Business Administration. And finally, E-matching offers students and entrepreneurs the opportunity to find each other quickly and digitally for the purpose of filling placements, vacancies or mini-jobs.

Art in the Euregion

Kunst in de Euregio

The project ‘Kunst in de Euregio’ (Art in the Euregion) strives to promote a cross-border collaboration between the most important art historians in the EUREGION. This is attempted by offering new products, such as a 'culture navigator', thematic tours and deploying PR.

The project will be running until the end of June 2008. The total cost of this initiative is 654,000 Euros. Three jobs and a network of 16 partners have already been created within this project, and the technical development of the 'culture navigator' has already started. Presenting information with regards to museums, gastronomy, means of transport, etc., which is to be included in the 'culture navigator', also forms part of the project. Besides opportunities for art lovers, the project also offers opportunities for the technical branch.
