Advice on Job Interview

CV opstellen

You were looking for interesting vacancies and you have found the suitable job for you. You’ve written your resume and application letter and…you are invited for a job interview!
How to act? How to handle a job interview? In this overview we provide the best advice on how to prepare a job interview.

Top 10 best job interview tips!
1. Good preparation is essential!
Request information from the company such as a financial- or social annual report and corporate brochures.

2. Visit the website
Visit also the website of the company and look for objectives and missions the company aims for. Show that you are well prepared. This way you show that you are interested and you show involvement.

3. Remember that name
Remember that name of the person of the job interview or the name of the company’s contact person.

4. Don’t talk too much
Don’t talk more than necessary. Talk only about subjects that are essential  during the conversation and respond to questions as precise as you can. Off course, you may take some time to think about a question. This way the conversation partner gets the impression that you are serious and you think  twice about your answers. If you don’t answer the question precise, the respondent can get the impression that you are not able to answer the question.

5. Dynamic and intelligent answers
Short answers on the other hand can create an insecure impression. Don’t answer only with a yes or a no, but give dynamic, intelligent and creative answers.

6. Body language is also language!
Your posture is important! You also communicate with body language. Therefore, sit straight, position your hands on the desk and try to look relaxed. A straight posture shows activity. Your hands on the desk shows self-confidence and authority.

7. Eye contact is a must
Direct eye contact with your conversation partner(s) shows honesty and self confidence. When you have a job interview with multiple interviewers, make eye contact with one after the other during the conversation.

8. Practice with answers
Prepare answers op possible questions. A short summary of general and difficult questions you can expect in a job interview.
• Tell something about yourself. What kind of person do we have here in front of us?
• Why do you apply at this company/for this job?
• Could you tell us about the positive- and negative qualities of your character?
• What qualities should someone  have within this company?/in this function?
• Do you prefer working for a big or a small company?
• Why should we choose you?
• How do you feel in a insecure or unexpected (stress) situation?
• Where are you in five years?
• What are your ambitions?
• How much do you want to earn? Gross or after tax?

9. Make notes
Make notes during the conversation. So you can read the most important topics of the job interview again. Also, you make an interested and active impression.

10. Ask questions
So you look interested and enthusiastic about the job. Ask not only about further procedures after the job interview, but try to ask a direct question about the job or the company like: “can you describe a day as account manager at your company?”
